Nigerian Police Urges Public Support Against Kidnapping

At a joint security press briefing in Abuja, CSP Anietie Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police Force, called for enhanced public support to combat the ongoing kidnapping crisis in Nigeria. He noted that the Police receive daily intelligence and warning information but emphasized the need for communities to report credible threats promptly.

Iniedu discussed a recent incident in Kebbi State where police personnel, despite receiving intelligence about armed bandits approaching, chose to engage the attackers, resulting in casualties among the officers. He pointed out that investigations can be hindered when complainants do not provide necessary evidence.

The Police Force is advocating for greater public participation in reporting threats and sustaining cases post-arrest. Additionally, Iniedu defended the renewed use of technology through the Vigilant App, developed in partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria, aimed at improving the handling of fraud-related cases.

He also warned political stakeholders against inciting violence as Nigeria approaches its electoral cycle.
