Nigeria Police Calls for Media Partnership on Reforms

On a courtesy visit to the NUJ FCT Council on Friday, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem, the newly appointed Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, called for enhanced media collaboration to improve public awareness and reporting on police reforms. This visit was part of a familiarisation tour, where CSP Edem highlighted the role of the Complaints Response Unit (CRU) as the Force’s primary internal accountability mechanism.

The CRU operates 24/7, addressing allegations of professional misconduct, extortion, harassment, and human rights abuses by police officers across Nigeria. Recent upgrades to the unit aim to shorten response times, improve case tracking, and ensure greater transparency, reflecting the Inspector-General’s commitment to reform.

CSP Edem announced plans for a media parley with Zone 7 to foster police-media engagement and invited journalists to participate. Comrade Grace Ike, Chairperson of the NUJ FCT Council, welcomed the CRU enhancements and pledged collaboration to amplify citizens’ complaints and ensure public scrutiny.
