Kano Police Summon Politician Warkal Over Rifle Display

The Kano State Police Command has summoned Hon. Aminu Abdullahi Warkal to its headquarters following the emergence of a video on social media that allegedly shows him displaying a pump-action rifle during a political rally. CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police spokesman, stated that officers discovered the footage while conducting routine cyber patrols.
In a statement issued on October 5, 2026, Kiyawa indicated that if Warkal's actions are proven, they could constitute a violation of the Firearms Act, potentially inciting fear among the public and undermining peace and security. Acting on the directive of Commissioner of Police CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, Warkal was instructed to report to the command headquarters in Bompai, Kano.
At the time of the statement, he was at the State Intelligence Department for investigation. The police did not confirm whether the firearm had been recovered or if Warkal had provided an explanation for its display.
The command also issued a warning to politicians and their supporters to adhere to the Electoral Act and maintain peace during the upcoming 2027 general elections.
