Port Harcourt to Host 10,000 Runners in 2026 Marathon

The Port Harcourt International Marathon is set to take place on November 14, 2026, with an expected participation of about 10,000 runners from Nigeria, other West African countries, and East Africa. This marks a significant expansion from previous editions, which attracted around 5,000 registered runners.

Goodluck Azunwena, the Convener of the marathon, stated that this edition represents more than just a race; it aims to showcase culture, tourism, and healthy living, encapsulated in the theme "Green Race." The event has received support from the Rivers State Government and private partners, with plans for enhanced security to ensure a smooth experience. Diri Dikibujuri, an official of the marathon, emphasized the transition from the Port Harcourt City Marathon to the Port Harcourt International Marathon, highlighting the initiative's focus on sustainability, youth empowerment, and global visibility.

The marathon will include various activities aligned with Sustainable Development Goals.
