Premier League Transfer Spending Exceeds €2.7 Billion

Premier League clubs have collectively spent over €2.7 billion on player transfers this summer, exceeding the total expenditure of clubs in Spain’s La Liga, Germany’s Bundesliga, and Italy’s Serie A combined, according to Transfermarkt. With approximately 10 days remaining in the transfer window, this figure represents a €100 million increase, or 3.8%, compared to the same stage last year when Premier League clubs had spent €2.6 billion.

Chelsea is the highest spender, committing €408 million, which accounts for over 15% of the league's total spending. Notable transfers include Morgan Rogers moving from Aston Villa to Chelsea for €138 million, Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City for €135 million, and Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United to Arsenal for €87 million.

The Financial Times reports that Serie A, La Liga, and Bundesliga clubs have spent a combined €2.3 billion this summer. Despite rising revenues projected at £7.4 billion for the season, Premier League clubs have not reported a profit since the 2017/18 season.
