Bwala: 2027 Could Be Atiku's Final Presidential Bid

Daniel Bwala, who serves as the Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, indicated that the year 2027 might represent the final opportunity for Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, to contest for the presidency. Bwala asserted that Atiku's promise to reinstate the fuel subsidy if elected is a strategic move, as he recognizes that 2027 could be his last chance.

This statement comes in the context of Tinubu's removal of the fuel subsidy during his presidential inauguration in 2023. Bwala remarked that Atiku's position on restoring the subsidy has ignited significant debate among Nigerians.

He noted that Atiku appears to believe there is little to lose following the subsidy removal, stating, “Since 2027 is likely to be his last chance to seek the office of the president, he decided to gamble on the populist rhetoric of ‘I will bring back the fuel subsidy.’”.
