Prestianni Receives Six-Match UEFA Ban for Homophobic Remarks

Gianluca Prestianni, a 20-year-old player, has been handed a six-match ban by UEFA following an incident during a Champions League knockout match against Real Madrid at Estádio da Luz in February. The match was halted for 10 minutes during the second half due to Prestianni's alleged homophobic remarks directed at Vinicius Jr.

Although Prestianni denied making any racist comments, Real Madrid's Aurélien Tchouaméni later confirmed that a direct homophobic comment was made. Prestianni has already served a provisional suspension and will miss two games immediately, with an additional three-match ban suspended for two years.

UEFA has requested FIFA to extend the punishment worldwide. The incident occurred after Vinicius Jr. scored, leading to an exchange between Prestianni and the referee.

José Mourinho had previously warned Prestianni about the consequences of such behavior, and FIFA President Gianni Infantino has indicated that measures will be examined to prevent players from hiding their actions.
