Prison Inmates Killed in Uyo Transformer Explosion

An overloaded transformer along Metro Road in Uyo exploded, resulting in the death of two awaiting trial inmates at the Medium Custodial Centre (MCC). Two prison officials were critically injured in the incident.

The explosion also affected a nearby transformer on Effiong Udoakpan Street. The Nigeria Correctional Service confirmed the tragic incident, with the inmates awaiting trial for alleged kidnapping and armed robbery.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists conducted a fact-finding mission on the incident.
