Legal Scholar Professor Alfred Kasunmu Passes Away at 92

Professor Alfred Bandele Kasunmu, SAN, a prominent figure in Nigeria's legal profession and former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Lagos State, died peacefully at the age of 92 on August 9, 2026. He was recognized as a remarkable scholar and mentor, whose influence extended beyond the classroom and courtroom.

Chief Bayo Ojo, SAN, a former Attorney-General of the Federation, recalled Kasunmu's role as his Dean at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in 1974, noting the profound impact Kasunmu had on his career and many others. Ojo praised Kasunmu for his intellectual brilliance and humility, emphasizing his commitment to legal education and the training of future lawyers.

Dr Joseph Nwobike, SAN, also paid tribute, highlighting Kasunmu's contributions to legal practice and education, particularly his analytical and progressive advocacy in court. Kasunmu served as Dean of the Faculty of Law at UNILAG from 1973 to 1975, shaping the academic discipline and professional excellence of young legal minds.
