Kasunmu's Death Elevates Solanke as Senior Advocate

Professor Alfred Kasunmu, SAN, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on August 9, 2026. Following his death, Kemi Pinheiro, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, stated that Chief Folake Solanke, SAN, has become the most senior living SAN and the statutory vice-chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria.

Pinheiro described Kasunmu as a formidable advocate, distinguished scholar, former Attorney-General of Lagos State, and a Professor of Law at both Obafemi Awolowo University and the University of Lagos. He emphasized Kasunmu's remarkable ability to dismantle opponents' cases while maintaining composure.

Kasunmu was a member of the Baptist Academy Class of 1953 and served as a trustee of the Baptist Academy Old Students Association. Olumide Ajomale, the Global President of the association, announced his death and recognized Kasunmu as a towering figure in law and scholarship, noting his mentorship and advocacy contributions.

Last year, he received the Order of Excellence Award from the Baptist Academy Old Students Association during its 170th Founders Day celebration.
