ICPC Chairman Advocates for Responsible Data Handling

Musa Aliyu, SAN, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), stated that responsible data handling is crucial for the Commission's anti-corruption efforts. He made this declaration at a One-Day Sensitisation and Awareness Programme on Data Protection and Privacy held at the ICPC Headquarters in Abuja.

The program, themed “Responsible Data Handling: Strengthening Accountability and Preserving Public Trust through Data Protection,” aimed to enhance awareness of data management and accountability within the Commission. Represented by Mr.

Henry Emore, Director of the Legal Services Department, Aliyu noted that the Commission handles vast amounts of sensitive information, which necessitates lawful and secure management to protect individual dignity and privacy. He stressed that data protection is essential for good governance and urged officers to uphold principles of accountability and confidentiality.

The ICPC is also strengthening its internal data protection framework through the establishment of a Data Protection and Incident Response Team (DPIRT) to address compliance gaps and improve operational processes.
