Cleric Urges Politicians to Protect Vulnerable at Burial

Most Rev. Patrick Eluke, representing the Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt, called on political office holders to prioritize peace and the protection of vulnerable individuals in society during his homily at the burial of Mrs. Dame Amaechi, the mother of former Rivers State governor and African Democratic Congress vice presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday. The burial took place in Ubima Community, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State.

Eluke emphasized that elections should empower citizens to choose their leaders and stressed the need for leaders to engage in constructive disagreement for the benefit of all. He praised Mrs. Amaechi for her generous and God-fearing nature, which she instilled in her children.

The event was attended by notable figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, his wife Titi, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, Muhammad Malami, and David Mark, among others. Rotimi Amaechi expressed gratitude to attendees for their support during this difficult time.
