Protests Erupt Over Installation of Nigerian King in SA

Protests occurred in South Africa's Eastern Cape, particularly in Kugompo and East London, against the installation of Solomon Ogbonna Eziko as the Igbo king on March 24, 2026. Local authorities criticized the coronation as disrespectful to traditional sovereignty.

The title of Igw Ndigo, which translates to "Igbo king," was conferred to Eziko by the Nigerian Igbo diaspora community to foster peace and unity among Nigerians in the area.
