Ohanaeze Disowns Igbo King's Installation in South Africa

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has publicly disowned the installation of an Igbo king in East London, South Africa, stating that the title lacks legal recognition and backing. The organization expressed concern over violent protests that erupted in the Eastern Cape Province, which were triggered by the coronation.

These protests involved the destruction of property and attacks on foreign-owned businesses. Ezechi Chukwu, the group's national publicity secretary, condemned the unwarranted violence and called for relevant authorities to take necessary steps to prevent further escalation.

Ohanaeze emphasized that the installation was merely a nomination and not recognized by the South East Council of Traditional Rulers. The organization advised the Igbo diaspora to refrain from adopting kingship titles outside Igbo land and urged respect for the laws of host countries.

They appealed for calm and mutual respect among all parties involved to maintain peace.
