Gunmen Kill Ten in Benue, Spark Outrage and Protests

In Benue, gunmen attacked Akpachi village in the Ugboju community on Saturday evening, resulting in the deaths of ten individuals, primarily women and children. The attacks occurred between 3 AM and 5 AM while residents were asleep, leaving several others injured.

The violence sparked outrage in Otukpo town, leading residents to carry the victims' bodies to the palace of the paramount ruler of the Idoma people. Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned the killings, describing them as barbaric and a direct assault on peace in the state.

He directed security agencies to intensify surveillance and patrols in affected communities and collaborate with neighboring states to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended. Senator Comrade Abba Moro also condemned the attacks, expressing concern over the escalating violence and calling for urgent action to guarantee the safety of lives and property.

Tension remains high in the area as residents mourn the victims and demand decisive action from the government.
