Governor Alia Condemns Attack on Benue Community

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia expressed his sorrow over the attack on the Efeyi community in Ugboju District, Otukpo Local Government Area, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of 15 individuals. The attack was attributed to suspected armed herders who invaded the community around 5 a.m., shooting sporadically.

Governor Alia commended the Benue State Police Command for their swift response, which led to the neutralization of two of the attackers. In a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Alia emphasized that those responsible for the violence must face justice.

He assured that his administration would continue to support security agencies to protect the people of Benue State, stating that strangers would not be allowed to displace residents from their ancestral homes. This incident marks the second major attack in the area within weeks, following a previous attack in the Otobi community that resulted in eight fatalities.
