Osogbo Minibus Drivers Protest Rising Petrol Costs

On Wednesday, commercial minibus operators in Osogbo, Osun State, known as Korope, protested against the rising cost of petrol and escalating operating expenses. The drivers temporarily withdrew their vehicles from the roads and gathered at Ayetoro, demanding urgent government intervention, particularly for the establishment of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refuelling stations in the state.

Driver Adewumi Adeleke reported that some operators spend up to N40,000 daily on petrol, leaving them with minimal income after other expenses. He urged both the Federal and Osun State Governments to expedite the deployment of CNG infrastructure, which would help reduce operating costs.

Another driver, Prince Olakunle Ojo, highlighted the difficulty in making a meaningful income due to high fuel prices, while Ariyo Idowu called for improved transport infrastructure and a review of transport fares. The drivers warned of a potential week-long strike if their demands are not met.
