Kaduna Psychiatric Hospital Warns of Strike Disruptions

The Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Barnawa in Kaduna has issued a warning regarding potential disruptions to healthcare services as union members plan to storm the hospital premises on Monday. This alert comes amid an ongoing strike initiated on February 4, 2026, by the local chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), which arose from disagreements over nurse placements.

Hospital management, represented by Usman Toma Haruna, stated that efforts to resolve the dispute through dialogue, including two separate meetings with union leaders, have not yielded any breakthroughs. The Federal Ministry of Health has previously directed the hospital to implement a "no work, no pay" principle against striking workers, which has further complicated the situation.

The management has expressed concerns that the union's planned actions could threaten peace within the Barnawa community and potentially escalate tensions in the wider Kaduna metropolis. They have called for intervention from Kaduna State government security agencies and community leaders to ensure public safety and uninterrupted healthcare delivery.
