Nigeria Police Denies VeryDarkMan's Kidnapping Allegations

The Nigeria Police Force has responded to allegations made by social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), during the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference in Port Harcourt. VDM claimed that police officers manning checkpoints along major highways relay information to kidnappers and bandits about the identity and movement of travelers, facilitating abductions for ransom.

In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the police rejected these claims as false and unsubstantiated, emphasizing that such allegations are damaging to an institution dedicated to protecting millions of Nigerians. The police stated that their officers work under difficult conditions to prevent crime and protect citizens, and that sweeping accusations against the entire force are unfair and demoralizing.

They assured that any individual officer found to be compromising their duty would face disciplinary action, but emphasized the need for evidence to support serious allegations.
