Qatar Factory Explosion Injures 54, 18 Missing in Incident

On a Sunday, an explosion occurred at a factory in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar, injuring 54 people and leaving 18 individuals missing, as reported by the country's interior ministry. The blast was described as a technical incident resulting from an internal explosion at a local gas supply facility.

The ministry confirmed that the incident took place during operational activities at the facility. The explosion illuminated the night sky with flames and smoke, raising concerns about safety in the region, which is home to the world's largest liquefied natural gas hub.

QatarEnergy, the state-owned firm, is involved in gas production in the area. The incident follows previous attacks on energy infrastructure in the region, including a drone strike attributed to Iran that caused further damage.

Qatar's Energy Minister, Saad Al Kaabi, indicated that the explosion could impact liquefied natural gas export capacity by 17 percent over the next three to five years due to necessary repairs.
