Nigerian Injured in Qatar Gas Explosion Recovers

Jubril Akored Abdulrahman, a Nigerian citizen, was injured in a gas explosion at a facility in Qatar on June 21, 2026, around 10:30 PM local time. The explosion occurred at the Barzan gas supply facility operated by Qatar Energy, resulting in 66 injuries, none of which were life-threatening.

The Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) confirmed Abdulrahman's recovery and discharge from the hospital, with ongoing support provided for his recuperation. Abdur Rahman Balogun, the Director of Media and Public Relations at NIDCOM, issued a statement expressing relief at Abdulrahman's recovery.

Nigeria's Ambassador to Qatar, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, acted promptly upon learning of the incident, ensuring that Abdulrahman's situation was closely monitored.

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the NIDCOM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, commended the ambassador's swift intervention and urged Qatar Energy to continue supporting injured workers throughout their recovery.
