34 Workers Killed in Balochistan Coal Mine Explosion

On Thursday, a methane gas explosion in a coal mine in southern Pakistan's Balochistan province resulted in the deaths of at least 34 workers. The provincial disaster management authority reported that the blast occurred near the capital of Balochistan, leading to a rescue operation that continued into the night.

As of early Friday, 34 bodies had been recovered, but the authority did not specify how many miners were in the mine at the time of the explosion. The joint rescue operation is still in progress to locate and recover any remaining trapped miners.

Mining accidents are frequent in Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan, which is the country's poorest province and largest by landmass, lagging behind in education, employment, and economic development.
