Nigerian Worker Recovers After Qatar Gas Facility Explosion

Jubril Abdulrahman, a Nigerian worker, was discharged from the hospital after recovering from injuries sustained during an explosion at the Barzan Gas Supply Facility in Ra's Laffan, Qatar, on June 21, 2026. The Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) confirmed his recovery in a statement issued on Saturday.

The explosion, which occurred at 10:30 PM local time, injured 66 workers, none of whom suffered life-threatening injuries. NiDCOM's Director of Media and Public Relations, Abdur Rahman Balogun, noted that Abdulrahman was among those injured but has since completed his medical treatment.

The commission praised Nigeria's Ambassador to Qatar, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, for his prompt intervention and continuous monitoring of Abdulrahman's condition.

NiDCOM Chairman Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa expressed gratitude for Abdulrahman's recovery and urged Qatar Energy to continue providing adequate medical care and support to all affected workers.

The explosion was confirmed to be an industrial accident, not linked to sabotage or hostile activities.
