Nigerian Player Stabbed in Lithuania, Attack Condemned

Obi, a 20-year-old Nigerian football player born in Lagos, was hospitalized following a knife attack in Lithuania. The incident occurred around 11 AM near his team's accommodation on Naujoji Street in Alytus, just before FK Dainava was scheduled to travel for a league match against Taurag.

Obi was stabbed in the stomach, buttock, and arm by a 2007-born male assailant. His condition is reported as critical.

FK Dainava condemned the attack in a Facebook post, expressing shock that a player could be a victim of such a serious crime and announcing the cancellation of their match plans. The Lithuania Football Federation also condemned the attack, labeling it as racially motivated and advocating for player safety regardless of their origin.

They emphasized that racism has no place in football and called for the strictest punishment for the assailant. The football community in Alytus is in shock over the incident.
