Rainstorm in Sokoto Kills Four, Destroys Infrastructure

On Saturday, a severe windstorm and heavy rainfall struck Kware Local Government Area in Sokoto State, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to several others. The storm caused extensive damage, destroying numerous houses and critical public infrastructure, including a primary school and a hospital.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) conducted an assessment of the affected areas, including Mallamawa, Mai Mushe, Kaura, Sabon Gari, and Rungin Tsamiya, to evaluate the extent of the destruction and identify the immediate humanitarian needs of the victims. Preliminary findings from NEMA indicated that hundreds of families were displaced, with many homes either destroyed or severely damaged.

The agency reported that the assessment aimed to establish the scale of the damage to facilitate timely emergency response and the provision of relief materials. NEMA is collaborating with state and local authorities to ensure that appropriate humanitarian assistance reaches the victims while efforts continue to determine the full impact of the disaster.
