NEMA Assesses Storm Damage in Sokoto, Four Dead

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) commenced an assessment of the damage caused by a storm and heavy rainfall in the Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State, which resulted in the deaths of four individuals. The assessment, conducted on a Saturday, focused on the worst-hit communities, including Mallamawa, Mai Mush, Kaura, Sabon Gari, and Rungin Tsamiya.

Preliminary findings from NEMA revealed that in addition to the four fatalities, several residents sustained varying degrees of injury due to the strong winds and heavy rainfall that destroyed homes and damaged key public facilities. The assessment team recorded extensive destruction of critical infrastructure, including primary schools and hospitals.

NEMA aims to determine the extent of the damage and identify immediate humanitarian needs for the affected communities. Residents have pleaded for shelter and humanitarian assistance as the agency continues to evaluate the full impact of the disaster.
