Ramaphosa Engages in UNESCO Education Talks in France

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is on an official visit to France from July 10 to July 12, 2023, to participate in UNESCO education talks. He is co-chairing a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, focusing on enhancing the quality of education.

During his visit, Ramaphosa will engage with French business leaders and participate in the 110th commemoration of the Battle of Delville Wood, which honors South African soldiers who fought in July 1916. This includes laying a wreath and unveiling a UNESCO plaque on Friday, July 12.

Ramaphosa's role as co-chair of the UNESCO High-Level Steering Committee on Sustainable Development Goal 4 emphasizes South Africa's commitment to strengthening its educational system and endorsing global education priorities for 2026-2027. The discussions will also address support for teachers, lifelong learning, digital transformation, and sustainable financing for education.

Following the meetings, Ramaphosa is expected to attend a dinner hosted by Macron.
