Discos Collect N208bn, Efficiency Declines in May 2026

In May 2026, Nigeria's electricity Distribution Companies (Discos) collected N208.15 billion from customer billings totaling N252.87 billion, resulting in a collection efficiency of 82.32%, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). Despite a marginal increase in billed amounts, the recovery efficiency fell to 77.31%, down from the previous month.

The Discos received electricity valued at N328.95 billion, but only N252.87 billion was billed, indicating that nearly 25% of supplied electricity was not billed. The billing efficiency of 76.87% represented a decline of 6.45 percentage points compared to April.

From the total billings, N44.72 billion remained uncollected. The average tariff approved was N124.39 per kilowatt-hour, while the actual average collected was N96.16 per kilowatt-hour.

Among the Discos, Ikeja Electricity achieved the highest collection efficiency at 97.28%, while Eko Electricity recorded a billing efficiency of 90.66%.
