NIWA Debunks Report of 150 Bandits Drowning in Sokoto

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has officially debunked reports alleging that 150 bandits drowned in a boat mishap in the Sabon Gida area of Sabon Birni Local Government Area, Sokoto State. Mr.

Bello Bala, the area manager of NIWA, stated in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday that there were no incidents reported at the river mentioned. He appealed to the media to avoid spreading misinformation and emphasized the importance of verifying news through credible sources.

Bala reassured that NIWA is committed to engaging with riverine communities on safety measures, including the use of life jackets for water transport. Additionally, a source from the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army in Sokoto confirmed that the report was false, stating that no incidents had occurred in the area and that troops present had not reported any boat capsizing involving bandits.
