House of Reps Extends 2025 Capital Budget Deadline

On June 30, 2026, the House of Representatives approved an extension for the implementation of the capital component of the 2025 budget to September 30, 2026, during an emergency sitting. The session was convened by the Clerk of the House, Ibrahim Sidi, following a memo issued on Sunday.

The debate on the bill, led by House Leader Juliu Ihonvber, focused on extending the lifespan of capital expenditures. It was noted that substantial funds released to ministries, departments, and agencies remained unspent due to administrative bottlenecks and procurement delays.

The extension aims to prevent the abandonment of critical infrastructure projects across Nigeria and to allow ongoing projects to be completed while settling outstanding obligations.
