House Extends 2025 Capital Budget Deadline to September

On Monday, the House of Representatives extended the implementation period for the capital components of the 2025 Appropriation Act by three months, shifting the deadline from June 30, 2026, to September 30, 2026. This decision enables the federal government to complete ongoing projects captured in the budget.

The bill, titled "An Act to Amend the Appropriation Act 2025," was fast-tracked through first, second, and third readings during an emergency session led by Speaker Tajudeen Abba. House Leader Prof.

Julius Ihonvber emphasized the necessity of this extension for the completion of several capital projects, stating that failure to extend the budget would adversely affect the nation's economic growth and development. The House also announced changes in committee leadership, appointing Ali Madaki as chairman of the Committee on Special Duties and Ali Isa as chairman of the Committee on Ship Services, among others.
