Wives of Abducted Engineers Urge Tinubu for Help

The wives of five engineers from Nelan Construct Ltd, who were abducted in November 2021, have made a formal plea to President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker Tajudeen Abba for their husbands' safe release. The engineers were reportedly kidnapped by armed men in Effium, Ebonyi State, amid intense clashes related to the Abakaliki ring road project, which is funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The families are calling for a thorough investigation into the matter and the prosecution of those responsible. A petition dated March 10, 2026, was submitted by their solicitor, Patricia Onyemeh, and includes questions regarding the handling of the investigation by the police and the Department of State Services (DSS).

The engineers were abducted during a period of disagreement between the state government and the AfDB regarding contract terms and financial interference, which has complicated the situation.
