Wives of Abducted Ebonyi Engineers Seek Presidential Help

The wives of five engineers from Nelan Construct Ltd, who were abducted in November 2021 in Effium Community, Ebonyi State, are appealing to President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas for help in securing their husbands' release. The engineers were working on the Abakaliki Ring Road project, funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB), when they were kidnapped amid intense clashes.

The families have expressed concerns over the handling of the investigation by the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), calling for a thorough investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the abduction. The solicitors representing the families, including Patricia Onyemeh, Lovett Edeani, Ifeoma Ejiofor, Esther Anek, and Nwazulum, have submitted a petition to the federal government, urging immediate action.

The situation escalated when Governor David Umahi announced the killing and burial of the five abductors, despite the investigation being ongoing, raising further concerns about the state's response to the incident.
