UNICEF Renovates Bakiyawa Health Centre, Enhancing Maternity Care

The Bakiyawa Maternal and Child Health Centre (MCHC) in Batagarawa Local Government Area of Katsina State has undergone significant renovations funded by the Global Fund and executed by UNICEF. Suwaiba Abubakar, a mother of nine, expressed her relief and hope for improved healthcare following years of poor maternity services at the facility.

Previously, women in labor had to give birth in shared wards due to the lack of a dedicated labor room, which compromised their privacy and safety. Additionally, critical services like blood transfusions required referrals to neighboring hospitals, posing risks during emergencies.

With the renovations, Suwaiba believes that more women will utilize the center, which she regards as a place of hope rather than anxiety. She urged the Katsina State Government to enhance the center's capabilities by providing adequate medical equipment, more health workers, and essential drugs to ensure comprehensive healthcare for women and children.
