Retired General and Son Arrested Over Alleged Coup Plot Against Nigerian President

Retired General Moham Ibrahim Gana, along with his son, Lieutenant Colonel Sadiq Ibrahim Gana, were arrested for their alleged involvement in a coup plot against President Bola Tinubu's government. The arrests were carried out in Niger State, with reports indicating that Danmagayaki Nupe, a civilian, was also arrested in connection with the plot.

The investigation identified Colonel Alhassan Ma'aji as a key figure in the alleged coup attempt. Additionally, Inspector Ahm Ibrahim from Taraba State was arrested by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) in Abuja over similar allegations.

The arrests are part of a broader operation that has led to the detention of 35 military personnel, including high-ranking officers. Concerns have been raised about the treatment of the detainees, with reports of illness and poor conditions in custody.

The Defence Headquarters initially denied the existence of a coup plot but later acknowledged the ongoing investigation.
