PDP Demands Nwifuru's Apology or Resignation Over Comments

The Ebonyi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Governor Francis Nwifuru to either retract his recent comments regarding opposition politicians or resign from his position. The PDP accused Nwifuru of making statements that could escalate political tension and incite violence as the 2027 general elections approach.

During a live radio program on Friday, PDP Publicity Secretary Darlington Peter-Onwe stated that Nwifuru should apologize to the people of Ebonyi for his remarks, which he claimed have already heightened hostility towards opposition members and media practitioners. Peter-Onwe referenced Section 14 of the Nigerian Constitution, emphasizing the government's responsibility to protect lives and property.

He urged Nwifuru to emulate other governors, such as Alex Otti of Abia State, who have publicly accepted responsibility and apologized when necessary. The PDP's criticism followed Nwifuru's comments made during the swearing-in of newly elected local government chairmen in Abakaliki, where he warned opposition figures of "real threats" and instructed chairmen to ensure APC dominance in their local councils during the upcoming elections.
