Fani-Kayode, Omokri Oppose Northern Power Shift in 2027

Femi Fani-Kayode, the Ambassador Designate to South Africa, and Reno Omokri, the Ambassador Designate to Mexico, issued a joint statement opposing the return of power to Northern Nigeria in 2027, arguing it would be detrimental to Nigeria's unity. They endorsed the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, asserting that the North has already completed two full uninterrupted terms under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

They emphasized that the current power dynamics favor the South and that a return to Northern leadership would violate a gentleman's agreement that has been crucial for Nigeria's post-military stability. The statement highlighted the need for equitable power sharing to ensure progress and stability in Nigeria.

They credited Tinubu with significant economic achievements, including a 12 consecutive cycle of GDP growth and a trade surplus, and called for national unity to support Tinubu's future candidacy.
