GPAN Demands Reversal of Student Protest Ban at MAU

The Global Pan-Africanism Network (GPAN), North-East Regional Chapter, on Sunday, called on the Vice-Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University in Yola, Adamawa State, to immediately reverse what it termed an “unconstitutional ban” on a planned student protest. The organization demanded the withdrawal of letters of apology obtained from students and an end to intimidation against students exercising their rights.

This demand was articulated in a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor and signed by the GPAN North-East Regional Secretary. The organization reviewed university communications regarding the protest and identified violations of Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution, Article 11 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and Article 21 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

GPAN urged the university to lift the ban, publicly apologize to students, and cease the use of security agencies to suppress student protests. It also called for an end to surveillance of protest organizers.
