Ondo Students Protest 68-Day Strike at University

On Thursday, students of Adekunle Ajasin University in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, protested against a 68-day industrial action by various workers’ unions. The students demanded the immediate reopening of the university, which has been closed due to the strike, disrupting academic activities and creating uncertainty for graduating students.

They barricaded the university’s main gate along the Owo-Ikare Expressway, holding placards with messages such as “Every pending graduate, shey na our lives be these?” and “Enough is Enough.” Folagbade Ayoola, President of the Students’ Union Government, stated that students could no longer remain silent as they faced challenges, including paying school fees while lecturers’ salaries were unpaid. The unions involved, including the Academic Staff Union of Universities, have been on strike due to unresolved demands regarding workers’ welfare.

Oluwatimileyin Amos, the union’s General Secretary, emphasized the need for immediate action to alleviate the hardships faced by students.
