Rivers CP Orders Removal of Illegal Police Roadblocks

On Monday, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, led a statewide inspection of police checkpoints and ordered the immediate removal of unauthorized roadblocks along highways. This action is part of efforts to enforce the directives of Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at eliminating extortion and misconduct among police officers.

During the inspection, Adepoju noted a significant reduction in the number of checkpoints along the Imo boundary, with a few illegal roadblocks identified and dismantled immediately. He emphasized that officers should conduct stop-and-search operations without obstructing traffic and should maintain professionalism in their duties.

Adepoju warned that officers found violating these directives would face disciplinary measures. He also encouraged public cooperation with legitimate police operations and provided contact information for reporting misconduct.

The inspection covered checkpoints along the East-West Road Corridor in the Ikwerr Emohua Local Government Area, with Adepoju accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department.
