Fubara Promises Action on Bille Community Gas Pollution

On Monday, Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara addressed a peaceful protest at the Government House in Port Harcourt regarding gas pollution affecting the Bille community in Degema Local Government Area. The governor assured the delegation, which included members from the Pilex Centre and the Civic Education Initiative, that their concerns would receive immediate attention.

Dr. Honour Sirawoo, the permanent secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Information, represented the governor.

Fubara acknowledged the severe impact of gas leakage on the environment and the livelihoods of the people, commending the community for their peaceful approach despite facing economic hardships. He emphasized that the Rivers State government is committed to protecting the lives and properties of the people and that environmental issues will remain a top priority.

Mr. Courag Nsirimovu, coordinating the delegation, highlighted that the Bille community is not alone in facing such challenges, as other communities like Rukporkwu, Ebubu, and Elelenwo also suffer from similar environmental issues.
