Rivers State School Suspended After Toddler's Death

The Rivers State government has suspended operations at Wisdom Gate International School located in Eligbolo, Obio Akpor Local Government Area, following the death of a two-year-old pupil, Wynn Akeku. The incident occurred on March 17, 2026, when a bookshelf reportedly fell on her while she was asleep in the classroom.

The state Commissioner for Education, Peter Nwagor, confirmed that the suspension was necessary to allow for an independent investigation into the incident. The school will remain closed until the issues surrounding the matter are fully resolved, and the Ministry of Education has expressed deep sympathy to the parents during this tragic time.
