Martinez Confirms Ronaldo's Role in Portugal's World Cup Plans

Roberto Martinez, the current coach of the Portugal national football team, has opened up about coaching Cristiano Ronaldo, asserting that the veteran forward remains a central figure in the team's plans as they pursue World Cup glory. Martinez, who previously managed the Belgium national team, stated that managing Ronaldo at 40 is straightforward due to the high standards he sets.

Under Martinez's tenure, Portugal has achieved stability, replacing Fernando Santos, whose team exited the 2022 World Cup in the quarter-finals. Martinez has overseen 27 victories in 36 matches, including winning the UEFA Nations League in 2025, marking the first major trophy of his reign.

Despite speculation regarding Ronaldo's retirement after several seasons, Martinez believes the decision will be entirely up to the player. Ronaldo's professional journey began at Sporting CP in 2002, moving to Manchester United, and he currently plays for Al Nassr FC in the Saudi Pro League, where he signed a new contract until 2027.

Ronaldo is set to rejoin Al Nassr ahead of their match against Al Fateh SC after missing two league fixtures.
