RSF Offensive Displaces Thousands in Sudan’s Blue Nile

The ongoing offensive in Sudan's Blue Nile region has led to the displacement of around 2,500 individuals, as reported by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). Civilians have begun crossing into neighboring Ethiopia to escape the violence.

The Sudanese army has asserted that it maintains control over a crucial military base, directly contradicting claims made by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that they have taken over the town. This conflict is occurring during the harvest season, with the RSF facing accusations of looting crops and the central market in Geissan.

The strategic importance of the town could enhance the RSF's influence over supply routes and access to areas near the Roseires Dam. Additionally, Sudan's government has accused Ethiopia of providing military support to the RSF from the United Arab Emirates, a claim that Addis Ababa has denied.

Analysts suggest that the RSF's offensive may be designed to stretch the resources of the Sudanese army as it seeks to gain ground.
