Rural communities pay more for electricity than Band A customers – REA

In a recent television interview, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Aliyu, highlighted that rural communities are charged more for electricity compared to Band A customers. Aliyu emphasized that the electricity model deployed in rural areas provides reliable supply and demonstrated the willingness of rural dwellers to pay for power.

He noted that rural communities pay tariffs close to N250-N280, depending on the total cost of infrastructure deployed by the agency. This system allows for flexibility, with some locations paying less than Band A customers while others pay significantly higher.

Aliyu explained that the tariffs in rural areas are subjective to the total cost of infrastructure deployed within the community.
