Rybakina Claims First US Open Title, Defeats Sabalenka

Elena Rybakina won her first US Open title by defeating two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in the final held on Saturday. This victory earned Rybakina her third Grand Slam title, adding to her Australian Open triumph earlier in the year and her Wimbledon success in 2022.

Rybakina's win also elevated her to the world number one ranking and halted Sabalenka's impressive 20-match winning streak at Flushing Meadows. The match showcased Rybakina's composure under pressure, as she overcame pre-tournament injury concerns.

In her post-match remarks, Rybakina expressed her surprise at her achievement and gratitude towards the spectators, stating, “I want to say thank you to the beautiful spectators for such a beautiful atmosphere. I’m falling in love with New York more and more.” Rybakina became only the third woman this century to win both hardcourt majors in the same year.
