One dead, ten rescued in Lagos building collapse

On Thursday, a three-storey shop complex collapsed in the Alakija area of Lagos State, leading to one confirmed death and the rescue of ten individuals. The incident occurred around 11:40 AM on Ojo Road, near the Alakija bus stop off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), coordinated by Dr. Olufemi Ok Osanyintolu, led the rescue operations, which involved multiple agencies conducting systematic searches for potential survivors trapped under the debris.

Two individuals were rescued alive, while the body of the deceased, an adult male, was recovered. Margaret Adesey from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that ten people were rescued with varying degrees of injury and were receiving medical treatment.

The cause of the building's collapse has not yet been determined, and heavy-duty equipment was deployed to assist in the rescue efforts. Emergency workers continue to search for any additional survivors.
