Saudi Arabia Condemns Iran Over Deadly Tanker Attack

On August 31, a Saudi supertanker, Sidr, was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in the deaths of two Filipino sailors. The Saudi national shipping company, Bahri, confirmed the incident occurred at approximately 23:40 local time, about 16 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman.

The Saudi foreign ministry condemned Iran for targeting the tanker and criticized Iranian strikes on Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait. Bahri expressed profound sadness over the loss of its seafarers and extended condolences to their families.

The attack coincided with reports from intelligence firms Marisks and Kpler regarding another supertanker, the Senegal Prosperity, being struck by projectiles nearby. Iran has not directly responded to the accusations but claimed that two oil tankers had exploded after attempting to navigate an unauthorized route.

The situation has heightened tensions in the region, particularly amid ongoing conflicts involving the US and Iran, with the Strait of Hormuz being a critical passage for global oil supplies.
