SDP to Hold Fresh Governorship Primaries in Gombe, Nasarawa

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) is set to hold fresh governorship primaries in Gombe and Nasarawa states on Saturday, following the withdrawal of its previously elected candidates. The party has formally informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about the primaries and requested the commission to oversee the selection of replacement candidates.

According to a notice, the primaries will be conducted through direct voting and are scheduled to commence at 11 am. This notification was issued on August 24, 2026, and was jointly signed by the SDP National Chairman, Professor Sadiq Gombe, and the National Secretary, Olu Agunloye.

The notice, titled “Notice of Party Primary Elections to Replace Governorship Candidates of the Social Democratic Party,” indicated that the primaries are necessary due to the withdrawal of the initially elected candidates. The SDP stated that party members in Gombe will gather at the SDP State Secretariat for the exercise, while details for the Nasarawa primary were also mentioned.
