SDP Selects Ex-IG Adamu for Nasarawa Governorship Race

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has chosen Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, a former Inspector-General of Police, as its candidate for the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election. This decision was made during a substitution primary held on Saturday in Lafia, the state capital, after the previous candidate, Musa Adamu Angba, withdrew.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had initially listed Angba as the SDP’s candidate. The primary election was conducted across all 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State, with 28,637 delegates participating.

Joseph Achille, the Chairman of the SDP Electoral Committee for Nasarawa State, declared Adamu the winner after he secured the highest number of valid votes. Achille described the primary as free, fair, and credible.

Following the announcement, Adamu expressed gratitude to the party and pledged to work towards improving the state if elected in 2027, stating his and his family's delight at the outcome of the primary.
